The New Testament is the foundation of Christianity and is a set of writings of the sectarian group known as either the “Jesus Movement” or “The Kingdom of God Movement” in scholarly circles. More importantly, these texts are enigmatic documents filled with perplexing accounts of theological concepts and proclamations. As a Sephardic Jew growing up in Latin America I have always been puzzled by the devotion of Jesus followers to this day. As I have researched his early disciples, I have asked myself the following question Can the religious models for behavior and belief depicted in these texts ever line up with Judaism? Most people know that Jesus was a Jew and his apostles were Jews, but do they understand why they were persecuted and rejected by their brethren? In recent years scholars have learned that this minority group was made of different camps that had diverse views about religious practices and we have limited knowledge of the extent of their relationship with the greater Jewish nation. This book is a historical reconstruction of what is known as "Jewish-Christianity" based on available sources. We will discuss Jesus and his predecessor John the immerser in a future volume. The "apostles” of the kingdom movement, developed the worldview that has now become a vast religion made of countless people across the globe. To discern the most accurate interpretation of their teachings we must explore the religious identity of the early Jewish followers of Jesus, who were part of the ethno-religious civilization known as “Israel” in the First Century.
